The Ministry of ‘one’

Now a days, especially with the social media craze, huge numbers seem to be everything.  There are many who find their worth in the number of followers, facebook friends and video hits.  Sadly, even the church has joined the trend by glorifying in large number of church attendants. In the Book of Luke, the Bible talks about the woman who went in search for one lost coin. Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors…

What to do until the storm passes by

On the journey of life, you are sure to have bumps in the road.  From time to time you will experience delay or even be derailed.  When you are face with hard times it is crucial that you understand and know that hard times are not permanent, they eventually pass.  The question is, “how do you keep it together until the storm passes?” 1. You have to remind yourself of the many times God delivered you from other storms. 2. Encourage yourself with the promises of God found in his Word. 3. Intensify your praise and thanksgiving to God; the…

It‘s permissible but is it beneficial?

Daily we are faced with situations that demand us to make choices.  While we are free to make the choice we do not get to choose the consequence of our decision. As Christians, the Word of God should be the final authority in our lives.  We do not get to negotiate or compromise clear instructions from the Word.  But what do you do when there are no clear instructions from the Bible?  According to Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:23; we should consider if what we want to do is beneficial or constructive.  If it is not, it is suggested not…

Faith that cannot be tested cannot be trusted

More often than not after your studies you will be given a test or multiple tests to see if you had learned anything.   Likewise what God has said to you will also be tested.  A faith that cannot be tested cannot be trusted. As Christians we do not walk by explanation, we walk by faith.  God did not promise to explain everything to us.  The things of God cannot always be explained; it  can only be revealed.  We have to believe what God said He will do. God has a plan for each of us and He has special parameters around…

Character change anyone?

The story is told about a man who was awoken by the scent of rotting, stinky cheese. To get away from the scent, he quickly went outside his house but even there he could still smell the scent.  He tried moving to different places to get away from the scent but the scent seems to follow him everywhere he goes.  Soon after he found out that the reason why he continued to smell the rotting, stinky cheese is because it was on the top of his nose; placed there by his grandchildren who played a prank on him while he…

Are you deeply rooted?

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water..” (Psalm 1:3)   If your root is shallow it takes nothing to make you topple over.  Examples of someone with shallow roots are: Finding security in your job, bank account, relationship and position. However, job can be lost, investment can go south, relationship can end and position can be taken away.  For people who rely on these things, they will easily fall apart if they were to lose the very thing that makes them feel secure. But for those whose roots are planted in Christ they will…

Make yourself remember

Judges 8:34 “They did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hands of all their enemies on every side.” In the Book of Judges, it is repeated several times that each time a Judge died, the children of Israel  would turn their back on God because they forgot what the Lord had done for them.    Many Christians today repeat the same action of the Israelite when they become fearful and faithless when faced with a new trial. Do you remember when you were going through that financial situation and God provided?  When you were experiencing pain from disappointments, hurts and betrayal,…

God wants your obedience not your help!

There are times in our lives when we have set our eyes on a prize and is determined to get it no matter what.  Then we find ourselves constantly pushing and fighting to make it happen. Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” God may remove someone from our lives and we keep chasing him/her; He may close a door and we keep banging on it or using life support systems to hold on to a position. However, we need to allow God…

Value the Valley

Don’t we all wish life was honky dory!  If only there were no disappointments, no down days and things go exactly the way we want them.  However, take an honest look back on your life; do you pray more and connect to the spiritual when life is going great or is it when life is difficult?  It is unfortunate that man tends to neglect the need for God when life is comfortable and even more unfortunate that often times it takes a bad situation to force us to seek the face of God. No one, including myself like the valley experience…

Disobedience leads to a defeated life

One observation I have made of some Christians is that they make choices that are in direct contradiction to the Word of God.  Then they would complain about how things are not going right in their lives and even at times wanting to question God as to why these things are happening to them. In Judges 2 :14 the Bible talked about the disobedience of the Children of Israel and how as a result God delivered them into the hands of the plunders, so they could no longer stand before their enemies. Some situations we face are self inflicted as a…
